Just In Time For Xmas: BGB New ATH In December

Crossing the US$500 million mark for market cap and making it to the Top 67 on CoinMarketCap /Top 74 on CoinGecko demonstrate a giant leap in BGB popularity as well as demand. In terms of performance, BGB has been leading the no-red pack unshakably with a wide gap. We talked about demand, and there are two metrics that show how well-received BGB is, including volume and the volume-to-market cap ratio. BGB volume in 2023 is clearly higher than in 2022, with an increase from US$7,102,471 to US$14,400,923 (+102.8%) in yearly average. Intuitively, we know that volume rises whenever there's a big price movement, regardless of the course, meaning volume does jump when prices see a drop, too. But here's the thing: high volume also says that there are enough people willing to buy, i.e. fill the sell orders, no matter what. Then again that's a sign of an expanding, healthy market with improved liquidity. The 30-day average volume-to-market cap ratio of BGB surpasses that of BNB in 2023 and on par with its 2022 figure even when BGB was still hanging around US$0.20. Go google the term and all will say that a high volume-to-market cap ratio suggests a high level of activities around the token and prices moving towards 'stable'. Of course, sustainably achieving new ATH doesn't count for stability, but can we appreciate the upward momentum and expect a better 'stabilised' price for BGB? There's hope for another BGB miracle before New Year, yet we can already celebrate a nice Christmas with near-US$0.70 BGB prices. Who says bull market isn't here yet? The former shows a continued trend of cooling inflation, with headline CPI decreasing from 3.2% in October to 3.1% in November and the core CPI remaining flat for three months in a row, and serves as key inputs for the latter. The FED has been trying their best to pull off a soft landing and that miracle doesn't seem as far off now as it did at the beginning of the year: the headline CPI went down by less than 3% off from June 2022's 9% but more than halved after 11 months, and the more stubborn core CPI also saw a consistent decline since March. Hence, there's no need to increase interest rates for the last month of 2023, and markets have been celebrating this decision. Due to the massive liquidations on Monday-Tuesday , volume in spot markets & futures OI dropped and only went up again from Wednesday-Thursday (after CPI and FOMC). BGB Recovers From The Weekend’s Low BGB prices almost didn’t sway at all last week, but turned red during weekend hours. This week’s low is still slightly above US$0.50 , and BGB closed the week at US$0.505829 - already somewhat recovered from the weekly low. The 4-week volatility of BGB is going down, meaning the recent downward trend has slowed down and we are not complaining. Indicators suggest a distribution trend since the beginning of the month so the RSI (4H) has been swaying below 50 and briefly hit 30 last week. Once we see enough selling pressure to push the RSI below 30 or even 25, a bounceback will sure follow. The most awaited piece of news before the holidays must be the FTX hearing. SBF has been extradited to the U.S.; his parents put up their house in Palo Alto, California to secure the bond for his bail. There is no actual money transfer until SBF fails to show up in court. SBF is accused of criminal fraud by the SEC, wire fraud, money laundering and conspiracy by the DOJ and facing a 115-year sentence if convicted. His peers, FTX co-founder and former CTO Gary Wang and former Alameda CEO Ellison Wang, already plead guilty, giving them advance in the case against FTX. Before the week ended, Judge Ronnie Abrams in this very case withdrew her participation because her husband’s law firm, Davis Polk Wardwell LLP, used to advise FTX in 2021. Called out for ‘being scams and centralised’, Ethereum is now removed from the P2P crypto marketplace Paxful. Here is what Paxful CEO Ray Youssef told his customers: Maple Finance once again became a secondary victim to FTX contagion, seeing another debtor, crypto market maker Auros, unable to make the repayment for a US$7.5 million stablecoin loan. Two weeks ago, Maple Finance took the hit when Orthogonal Trading defaulted on the US$10 million USDC loan to M11 Credit on the platform. MFT lost about 5% of its value by the end of the week.
