Bitcoin creator turns 50 as US adopts it as reserve asset
April 5, 2025, marked the symbolic 50th birthday of Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC), as the cryptocurrency continues to gain global recognition, including its recent designation as a U.S. strategic reserve asset.
Nakamoto’s identity remains one of the greatest mysteries in modern finance.
According to his P2P Foundation profile, Nakamoto listed April 5, 1975, as his birthdate, a choice believed to hold symbolic significance.
The date coincides with the 1933 U.S. Executive Order 6102, which banned private gold ownership—a historical event that aligns with Bitcoin’s ethos of decentralisation and financial sovereignty.
Despite Bitcoin’s rise from an experimental digital currency to a trillion-dollar asset, Nakamoto has remained anonymous and inactive since 2010.
His Bitcoin wallet, holding over 1 million BTC (valued at $91 billion), has never been touched, further deepening the intrigue surrounding his identity.
This milestone coincides with a major policy shift in the United States.
On March 7, President Donald Trump signed an executive order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and Digital Asset Stockpile.
This move signals the integration of Bitcoin into the U.S. financial system and underscores its growing importance in global finance.
“At 50, Nakamoto’s legacy is no longer just code; it’s a cornerstone of economic sovereignty," Blockchain expert Anndy Lian described Nakamoto’s influence as transformative.
He added that Bitcoin’s reserve status highlights trust in its scarcity and resilience.
The crypto community celebrated Nakamoto’s contributions while reflecting on his decision to remain anonymous.
This anonymity has preserved Bitcoin's decentralised nature, ensuring no single entity controls its network.
As Bitcoin continues to reshape global financial systems, questions about Nakamoto’s identity persist.
At the time of reporting, the Bitcoin (BTC) price was $78,648.63.
