The Cosmos ecosystem is solidifying itself as a true home for Real World Assets (RWAs), fueled by the recent announcement of the new Layer 1 blockchain Ondo Finance, the Ondo Chain. The official announcement highlighted that the new feature was developed specifically for institutional-grade RWAs, and with this aim, Ondo Chain promises to revolutionize the way traditional assets are integrated with blockchain technology.
Ondo Chain was presented to the public during the Ondo Summit in New York, an event attended by a prominent figure in the American political scene, Donald Trump Jr, son of US President Donald Trump. Ondo Finance expressed his enthusiasm for the future of RWAs in the United States, stating that the country has the potential to become the global hub for cryptocurrencies under new leadership.
As explained by Ondo Finance, Ondo Chain is an omnichain network that is designed to support Real-World Assets, with advanced features such as verified collateral, as well as some native margin capabilities. This robust infrastructure allows financial institutions and enterprises to explore the potential of RWAs safely and efficiently.
“Ondo Chain was designed from the ground up to solve these problems and enable true institutional-scale RWAs. It combines the best aspects of public and permissioned blockchains to provide the infrastructure for institutions and the financial system to go on-chain,” stated .
As highlighted by Ondo Finance in its official announcement, features include: Institutional-grade security via RWAs; Permissioned validators; Institutional network connectivity; Scalable and secure data feeds; Native omnichain messaging and bridges; Proof of reserves and consecrated collateral; Open access and development; Native DeFi support for RWAs; Institutional-grade governance.
What is Ondo chain?
Ondo Chain is a Layer 1 proof-of-stake blockchain built specifically to accelerate the creation of institutional-grade financial markets onchain, as explained its developers. By combining the openness of public blockchains with the compliance and security features of permissioned chains, Ondo Chain provides the infrastructure to enable real-world tokenized assets to be used at scale.
According to the company, Ondo Chain will provide native support for tokenized RWAs, such as Ondo GM tokens, ensuring that they are seamlessly integrated into all aspects of the blockchain’s functionality and ecosystem. RWAs, such as Ondo GM tokens, will be used to secure the network, oracles, and bridges. Ondo GM tokens will have their collateral continuously verified by Ondo Chain’s validator nodes. The Ondo Chain DeFi ecosystem will be designed to support corporate actions and other unique requirements imposed by RWAs. Finally, Ondo GM tokens can be natively used for margin, whether originated in traditional finance or DeFi.
