Movement Labs Advances With Developer Mainnet Launch
- Movement Labs has launched its developer mainnet, integrating MoveVM with Ethereum.
- The project, backed by $38M from Polychain Capital, will enable DeFi protocol deployment.
- A public mainnet beta is expected by mid-February, which will introduce full user onboarding.
Movement Labs has reached a milestone in bringing Facebook’s Move Virtual Machine (MoveVM) to the Ethereum ecosystem with the launch of its developer mainnet. The developer mainnet launch starts the deployment of Movement’s core infrastructure and enables selected partners to begin implementing DeFi protocols. This phase builds upon Movement’s initial mainnet launch in December and sets the stage for a public mainnet beta release anticipated next month.
The integration of MoveVM, originally developed for Facebook’s discontinued Diem digital currency project, is an important moment for Movement. While Diem was shelved in early 2022, the Move programming language found new life through the creation of Sui and Aptos layer-1 networks. Movement Labs is now pushing its implementation on an Ethereum layer 2, supported by a $38 million Series A funding round led by Polychain Capital.
The developer mainnet introduces several critical components to the Movement Network ecosystem. These include the deployment of core infrastructure elements and the release of technical documentation and developer resources. The platform’s foundation has been established through earlier implementations of follower nodes, RPC nodes, indexers, permissioned smart contracts, and a block explorer during the mainnet beta phase.

Looking ahead, Movement Labs plans to transition to the public mainnet beta phase by mid-February. This next stage will introduce full permissionless application deployment and user onboarding capabilities. Alongside this deployment, Movement will launch a multi-asset liquidity program designed to support the growth of DeFi applications on the platform.
The integration of MoveVM with Ethereum could be a technological breakthrough in blockchain interoperability. This implementation could potentially combine the strong security and widespread adoption of Ethereum with the efficiency and flexibility of the Move programming language. The development could particularly benefit DeFi applications, offering better performance and improved security features inherent to Move’s design.
