FIFA blockchain game set for summer 2025 launch
FIFA and Mythical Games have partnered to develop FIFA Rivals, a blockchain-based soccer game set to launch in the summer of 2025.
The game, available on iOS and Android, will let players manage soccer clubs and engage in real-time arcade-style matches.
Built on the Mythos (CRYPTO:MYTH) blockchain and secured by the Polkadot (CRYPTO:DOT) network, FIFA Rivals incorporates blockchain technology to enable ownership and monetisation of in-game assets within a play-to-earn economy.
John Linden, CEO of Mythical Games, expects the game to attract over 100 million players, following the success of the company’s *NFL Rivals*, which has surpassed 6 million sign-ups.
Mythical Games describes the game as an opportunity to “build your squad, dominate the competition, and create your legacy,” targeting soccer’s vast global audience.
FIFA’s 2022 World Cup, which drew around 5 billion viewers, underscores the sport’s immense popularity.
The Mythos Foundation, established by Mythical Games in 2022, is central to FIFA Rivals' development.
It focuses on creating crosschain infrastructure, supporting NFT-based economies, fostering Web3 esports, and collaborating with traditional gaming platforms.
Mythical’s Blankos Block Party, which handles 3 million monthly transactions, highlights the company’s blockchain gaming expertise.
This partnership illustrates the growing trend of sports organisations leveraging blockchain to enhance fan engagement.
In 2023, Mythical secured $37 million in Series C1 funding to expand its marketplace and advance projects like FIFA Rivals.
The game’s integration of blockchain technology and the global soccer fanbase positions it as a significant development in interactive sports gaming.
