AssangeDAO members: 12,161 ETH used for Assange’s legal defense and activities, more than 4,431 ETH still unused
According to ChainCatcher, AssangeDAO member Silke Noa posted on social media that the Wau Holland Foundation (WH) has issued a "preliminary transparency report" disclosing AssangeDAO's expenditures of 16,593 ETH raised to rescue Assange.
According to the report, 12,161 ETH have been spent on legal fees and public relations so far, including certain advances paid by WH before The Clock raised funds.
In addition, these figures clearly show that AssangeDAO's 10,000 contributors actually funded Assange's freedom. Specifically, in 2021, WH's donation income was 63,000 euros and spent 194,000 euros on Assange activities; in 2022, WH used 3,800 ETH (about 5.98 million euros) from the Assange Fund, plus 264,000 euros in independent donations to pay lawyers and public relations activities.
The report mentioned that pending invoices for legal fees in 2024 are not expected to be provided to WH until mid-August, and it still needs to clarify whether there are any ongoing lawsuits that need to be continued. 5% of AssangeDAO funds (valued at 829.65 ETH on May 9, 2022) are retained by WH as "reserves" to cover WH internal costs (IT infrastructure, expenses, travel costs, office costs), and the relevant multi-signature indicates that 329.65 ETH remain in the reserve account.
The report also lists payments to the Assange Campaign International organization, which also funded Assange's extensive Australian activities and received 3.5% of the donation (ie 580.755 ETH).
The report shows that 12,161 ETH only paid a total of 16.66 million euros. As of the date of the transfer on March 13, 22, 12,161 ETH was worth €28.7 million/$31.2 million (now $37.1 million). This may be due to the fact that some funds were transferred in the crypto bear market without treasury preservation management, or due to additional transaction fees.
To date, 4431.5993 ETH (now $13.54 million) of AssangeDAO's funds (matching on-chain data) remain unspent. Noa said he hopes and looks forward to making a decision on the arrangement of the remaining funds in full cooperation with the AssangeDAO community.
ChainCatcher previously reported that AssangeDAO member Silke Noa said that in order to rescue Assange, it is estimated that more than 11,000 ETH ($37 million) of the 16,593 ETH raised by AssangeDAO through the purchase of "The Clock" has been used for legal defense and publicity activities.
Previously, for security reasons, it was not possible to disclose the allocation of funds in full transparency in the past to avoid adversely affecting Julian's case. But now is the time for the Wau Holland Foundation to provide a detailed report on the allocation of funds.
